Man Shot, Killed at Lomita Home: Police

Medics were called, but the man could not be revived, according to San Diego police.

San Diego, CA — A man in his early 30s was found shot to death at a Lomita-area home Friday afternoon.

Authorities received a call about 2:10 p.m. of a call of shots fired in the area of 8500 Encinitas Way and when officers arrived at the scene they found the victim unconscious, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, according to Lt. Manny Del Toro of the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit.

Medics were called, but the man could not be revived and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Del Toro said.

He has been identified but his name was being withheld pending family notifications.

"Residents said they looked outside when they heard multiple gunshots," Del Toro said. "They saw two men in the street.

"One of those men was the injured male and the other male yelled that his friend had been shot. A gray vehicle was seen leaving the area, but it is unknown if that vehicle was involved."

It's unclear what the victim and his friend were doing in the area when the shooting occurred, Del Toro said.

Detectives were investigating the death and attempting to locate witnesses, he said.
