Dear MMHS Alum,
Lido’s, “The Lemon”, Berry’s Sporting Goods, Dictionary Hill and Jack-in-the-Box are iconic symbols of our formative years. All orbit a school with a Matador for a mascot and red and black colors. The students and teachers of Mt Miguel High School and the surrounding neighborhoods helped mold our personalities and launched us on our life’s journey.
Over stated? Not for me. That is why I joined the MMHS Alumni Foundation and agreed to chair the 1st Annual Matador Classic. Proceeds from the golf tournament, June 19th at RiverWalk, will benefit the MMHS Alumni Foundation, whose mission is to financially support the programs and students of our Alma mater.

Whenever you graduated, I know you were a PROUD Matador. There is much to be proud of at TODAY’s Mt. Miguel! Principal Steve Coover and staff are doing a terrific job preparing the students for success. As a result of attending Mount Miguel High School students will acquire knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to be constructive, contributing, and successful citizens.
More than 25,000 students have graduated from Mt. Miguel since it opened in 1957. This inaugural Golf Tournament is being dedicated to our first Principal, Melvin Grant, who recently passed away after a long and distinguished career in education.

Please join me in giving back to the place that meant so much to us. Think about this. Today a student at Mt. Miguel sits in your old classroom, uses your old locker, and follows your old path to the football field, gym, quad and English class. A Mt. Miguel student likely lives in the house where you grew up. Students still buy their Letterman’s Jackets at Berry’s and have a coke and pizza at Lidos after a game. Is Dictionary Hill still a “make-out” place? Probably. We invite all alumni and friends of the Matadors to join us in support of this annual Golf Tournament for a day of fun, fellowship and most of all to support Mt. Miguel High School. The students at MMHS need our help to maximize their experiences at the place we called OUR school. Will you join me?
