With the hot January weather it is hard to get into the feel of winter, but we are trying! This week we incorporated our study of mammals with our winter theme and painted a polar bear in the snow. The polar bear was “painted” with shaving cream mixed with glue. The snow was painted with white paint mixed with sand, topped with glitter. It was messy and fun!
As we play our winter bingo, which has many winter sports, we are talking about the Sochi Winter Olympics that will be starting next month. Because the children didn’t know all the sports represented on the bingo cards or in the Olympics, we watched some quick snippets of youtube videos. Ice hockey, figure skating, pairs skating, skiing, snowboarding, speed skating, bobsledding, and luge racing were all fun to watch.
We continue to learn about mammals in the classroom and while playing mammal bingo. Mammals have hair, wool or fur; they drink milk from their mother’s body when they are babies; they are live and not hatched from an egg; they are warm-blooded; and they have a spine. They end mammal bingo with a “We are Mammals!” cheer.
