Search On For Attempted Carjacking Suspect in Lemon Grove

The attempted carjacking was reported about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Lemon Grove, CA — A suspect in an attempted carjacking Tuesday in Lemon Grove was on the loose after authorities came up empty in their search for him, a San Diego County sheriff's sergeant said

The victim suffered a cut on their arm during the attempted carjacking that was reported at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 7900 block of Broadway, according to sheriff's Sgt. Kelly Moody.

Deputies and sheriff's detectives responded to the scene and began a perimeter search of the area where the suspect was last seen, Moody said.

They searched buildings and properties but were not able to locate the suspect, identified as Dexter Prewitt.

Deputies and detectives were continuing their search for Prewitt Tuesday evening. He is described as a black man who is about 54 years old and 6 feet tall and has salt-and-pepper colored hair. He was last seen wearing a faded yellow Polo shirt, faded jeans and white athletic shoes.

"It is not believed that Prewitt is armed at this time, but can be assaultive," Moody said. "If someone believes that they can help locate the suspect, please do not attempt to contact the suspect, but instead contact the Sheriff's Department to provide the information for deputies to follow up on."
