Woman Killed In 100-mph-Crash Into Pole In Oak Park Area
The driver's death was the only traffic fatality over the Memorial Day weekend in San Diego region, officials said.
SAN DIEGO, CA – A single traffic fatality occurred in the San Diego area over the long Memorial Day weekend, a period during which 76 motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in the county.
The deadly crash took place about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when a car traveling at upwards of 100 mph veered off an Oak Park street and struck a power pole, killing the 33-year-old woman behind the wheel, according to San Diego police.
This year's solo Memorial Day weekend roadway death matches the toll from the comparable period last year, a 72-hour span in which the California Highway Patrol made 57 DUI arrests.

Statewide, 37 people died in traffic accidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday, eight fewer than last year, and 1,060 drivers were jailed for allegedly driving while intoxicated, an increase of 139 over the 2017 tally.
