2016 in Music: California DJ Mixes Top 25 Tunes of the Year

Every year, Bay Area-based “DJ Earworm” mashes up the top 25 songs from the last 12 months. The process takes Jordan Roseman —aka DJ Earworm— about a month.

The musical compilation and video montage, which is released before the holidays, allows listeners to reflect back at the last 12 months in music. Roseman rummages through the weekly music charts to determine the biggest hits of the year for his mix.

“I tried to get the whole thing to sound like a single song, so I chose the moments which most expressed my message and then pieced it together,” Roseman told Patch by email. “ I especially like the part from ‘Starboy’ where he's talking about ‘cut that into pieces’ because that's what I do when I make my mashups. But also it's a commentary on how the world seems to be falling into pieces and sometimes it gets me down and I feel like I'm falling into pieces.

"’I Took A Pill in Ibiza’ is probably my favorite hit song from the year. It's just so well-written and poignant, and the remix really brought it into the prototypical groove of 2016.”

The “United State of Pop 2016 (Into Pieces)” was posted on YouTube on Dec. 1, and has been viewed almost two million times.
