Catalytic Converter Etching Event Coming To Livermore

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Police Department is again teaming up with Las Positas College to host a free catalytic converter etching event, after a successful event in March.

Theft of valuable catalytic converters is a common problem throughout California, and inscribing them with license plate numbers and a Livermore Police Department identifier is meant to deter theft and make them easier to track down if they’re stolen. Replacing a stolen converter may cost up to $2500, according to Farmers Insurance.

The event will take place Thursday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Las Positas College Automotive Department on Loop Road, behind Building 800. The free event is first come, first served. The last vehicle in line at 3 p.m. will be the last to be serviced. Waits may take up to an hour.
