5 Livermore Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists

5 students from Granada and Livermore high schools were named as finalists for one of the nation's most prestigious scholarships.

LIVERMORE, CA — Five students from the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District were named as finalists for the National Merit Scholarship, placing them amongst the top students in the country. Finalists are selected based on scores from the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT exams, recommendations, extracurricular activities, and an essay.

Livermore High School’s Milan Grewal, Justin Lam, and Simone Laney, and Granada High School’s Roxanne Frank and Jacques Grove were named National Merit Finalists. Lam, Laney and Frank were also awarded corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships of up to $10,000 a year.

“The dedication, focus, and commitment to academic excellence required to receive a National Merit Finalist distinction is significant. We are so proud of our students and look forward to watching their futures in education and beyond,” LVJUSD Superintendent Kelly Bowers said in a statement.
