The sprawling Livermore building is touted as the second largest existing warehouse under one roof within the nine Bay Area counties. It is located on 34.43 acres near the I-580 and was constructed in 1998 as a build-to-suit for Circuit City, with all the features of a modern logistics facility, according to a news release from Chicago-based JLL, which helped facilitate the Orchard deal.

Amazon said Friday the new station will power its "last-mile delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers in the Bay Area."

The Livermore station is expected to create hundreds of full- and part-time jobs, according to Amazon.

"Delivery Stations enable Amazon Logistics to supplement capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery capabilities to support the growing volume of customer orders," Amazon said in its released statement. "Delivery Stations also offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages, as well as independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss, create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex."

In the Bay Area, there are currently Amazon Delivery Stations in San Leandro, San Francisco, Richmond and West Sacramento.
