TRACY, CA — A medical supply warehouse was destroyed Thursday afternoon as authorities reported at least two fires burning around Tracy.
The huge blaze was reported just before 1 p.m. at the Medline Industries distribution warehouse on the 5700 block of Promontory Parkway. Employees of the Medline warehouse and all warehouses southwest of the building have been evacuated, according to Tracy police. No injuries have been reported as of 5:20 p.m.
The warehouse supplies medical and surgical products to hospitals and clinics. It was reportedly 1 million square feet.
Tracy Mayor Dan Arriola said no resident evacuations were ordered, according to ABC7.
Video footage shows huge plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.
Crews from the Tracy Fire Department, the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority, Cal Fire, the Alameda County Fire Department, the Contra Costa County Fire Department, and other Bay Area fire departments are on the scene to battle the warehouse fire and a nearby vegetation blaze dubbed the Lammers Fire that broke out at around 2:20 p.m. Thursday just north of I-580 in Tracy, according to the Watch Duty app. The Lammers Fire grew to 10.5 acres, though incident command reported that forward progress was stopped at around 3:55 p.m., according to Watch Duty.
“We are aware of multiple fires in the area and are coordinating with personnel from South San Joaquin County Fire Authority to assess conditions and address any evacuation needs if they arise,” the Tracy Police Department and the city of Tracy said in a statement at 2:45 p.m. “Out of an abundance of caution, public safety personnel are present in the Tracy Hills area; however, there is currently no threat to residents. Personnel are assisting with traffic control and monitoring conditions.”
As of 4:10 p.m., access to Promontory Parkway is limited to emergency personnel and authorized vehicles. See here for all local closures.
Medline Industries describes itself as the largest provider of medical-surgical products and supply chain solutions. Nicole Boswell of the San Joaquin County Fire Authority said the building is considered a total loss, according to ABC7.
Medline Industries released a statement Thursday confirming the fire. They also said that all their employees and on-site personnel are accounted for, and they are working closely with local authorities.
