LIVERMORE, CA — Hundreds of community members and local leaders gathered Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the new Sunken Gardens Pump Track at the Sunken Gardens Skate Park.

The new concrete pump track is Livermore's first pump track. It features banked turns, table tops, rollovers, and banked extensions, according to the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District. It also features ADA-accessible parkways, improved site accessibility, shaded seating and gathering areas, synthetic turf, and other site and enhancements. It was funded through the City of Livermore AB1600 park in-lieu fees.

The Wednesday ribbon cutting featured remarks from LARPD Board Chair Phil Pierpont and Livermore Mayor John Marchand, followed by a ceremonial first ride led by community member and project advocate Mike Ralph.

"This project shows what can happen when a community comes together around a shared vision," Pierpont said in a statement. "From the earliest public discussions to the riders, families, advocates, and community members who supported it along the way, this pump track was shaped by the community and built for the community. We're excited to see it open and enjoyed for years to come."
