LIVERMORE, CA — Two Tri-Valley teams could soon face each other in the World Series in Livermore, which starts Saturday with an opening ceremony at Max Baer Park. The Intermediate 50/70 Little League World Series features six U.S. teams and six international teams from Puerto Rico, Aruba, Czechia, Canada, Australia and South Korea.
Granada Little League earned its place in the 12-team tournament by winning the West Region championship Thursday in Nogales, Arizona, where they defeated Moorpark Little League of Southern California 7-4.
Bollinger Canyon Little League, which comprises players from Danville and San Ramon, will represent California District 57. Bollinger Canyon won the District 57 Intermediate All-Star championship, and earned an automatic entry into the tournament because District 57 is hosting the championship.
"We're incredibly proud of this group for their hard work, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament," the team said on Instagram. "Congratulations to our players, coaches, and families on bringing home the Dana Takiguchi Memorial Championship!"
Bollinger Canyon will play Sunday against the Southeast champions, Bayshore Little League of Tampa, Florida. Granada will face the winner of that game Monday.
Meanwhile, the San Ramon Valley Little League, which features players ages 10-12, won the Northern California regional tournament Thursday in Chico against El Dorado Hills. On Aug. 9, they will play in the West Region tournament in San Bernardino as one of four teams vying to compete in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Tri-Valley has proved to be a hotbed of baseball talent. In 2024, Livermore advanced to the U.S. championship game, where they came in second place. In 2023, Bollinger Canyon Little League also made it to the Western Regional Championships, where they came in second. In 2022, Danville won the Intermediate World Series.
