Velo3D Opens Massive Metal 3D Printing Campus In Livermore

The 289,000-square-foot facility is one of North America's largest for metal additive manufacturing.

LIVERMORE, CA — Fremont-based Velo3D opened a factory in Livermore, where it will build industrial metal 3D printers and use them to manufacture mission-critical metal parts for the defense, aerospace, and energy industries.

The 289,000-square-foot facility, located on 711 Challenger Street near Isabel Avenue and Stanley Boulevard, is one of the largest of its kind in North America. Forge 1 includes approximately 270,000 square feet of production space, with infrastructure designed to support more than 40 large-format metal additive manufacturing systems.

The company's printers can help grow complex parts layer by layer from metal powder, and are often able to produce shapes that would be significantly more difficult to make using traditional manufacturing.

The new campus is designed to manufacture hundreds of thousands of parts quickly. It also means that more parts can be manufactured in the U.S. rather than relying on overseas suppliers, which can create the type of supply-chain vulnerabilities that created so many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
