Scouting: Developing Tomorrow's Leaders—and a Stronger Livermore

As a new school year begins, Livermore families are once again thinking about how to help their children succeed—not only in the classroom, but in life. For generations, Scouting has been quietly helping local young people do exactly that.

Scouting America has been embedded in the Livermore community for decades. Local Scouts have contributed thousands of hours of service to schools, parks, churches, libraries, historical organizations, youth programs and other community institutions. The record of Eagle Scout projects alone provides a remarkable snapshot of that commitment: a local project archive identifies 144 Eagle Scout projects from 2010 through 2025.

Those projects have included improvements at Livermore schools, landscaping and environmental work at Sycamore Grove Park, benches and storage facilities, playground improvements, historical displays, athletic facilities, emergency signage and projects designed specifically to benefit children. Each project represents more than a completed task. It represents a young person learning how to identify a need, develop a plan, organize people and resources, overcome obstacles and follow through.

That is the special value of Scouting. It complements academic achievement with leadership, teamwork, communication, responsibility, resilience and practical life skills. And unlike many activities whose benefits end when the season or school year concludes, the lessons learned through Scouting can remain with a young person for a lifetime.

Scouts do more. Know more. Are more.
