Livermore Man Accused Of Setting 2 Fires Totaling 6K Square Feet

LIVERMORE, CA — A Livermore resident is accused of starting two fires that burned approximately 6,000 square feet in a vacant field, according to the Livermore Police Department.

On Aug. 23 at around 1:35 p.m., a Livermore police officer spotted two large fires burning in a vacant field near North Murrieta Boulevard and Portola Avenue, police said. While checking the area, officers say they located Gabriel Bentancourt, 36, of Livermore, walking away from the fires while carrying a torch. Bentancourt was arrested on numerous charges, including arson.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department extinguished both fires, which burned approximately 6,000 square feet of dry grass, LPD said. No structures were damaged.
