Today's riddle: What is the difference between a jeweler and a jailer? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Contaminant exposure, not age, drives $24.3M rebuild of Livermore's oldest fire station City of Livermore (opgov.news) — Livermore's oldest fire station on East Avenue is set for a $24.3 million, two-year rebuild to meet modern safety and ADA standards, with crews remaining on-site in a modular building. The historic Centennial Light Bulb will be temporarily moved off public display during construction, then returned to a dedicated viewing area once the new station and reserve apparatus building are complete.
2. Livermore VFW post demands a published closure plan for the 112-acre VA campus City of Livermore (opgov.news) — Livermore's VFW Post 7265 is urging the VA to release a clear closure plan for the 112-acre Livermore veterans medical campus so the community can weigh in on its future. With some services already shifted to Menlo Park and a new Pleasanton clinic planned, local veterans want assurances the property will keep serving vets, possibly as housing or rehabilitation space.
3. 'He was such a good kid': Granada alum ID'd as passenger killed in Monterey crash (livermorevine.com) — Livermore is mourning 19-year-old Granada High alum Jerrod Chapman-Marshall, who died as a passenger in an alleged drunk-driving crash during Monterey Car Week. Friends, former teammates, and his mom describe a hardworking, caring young man building a life in Livermore, from local schools and jobs to studies at Las Positas College, while a GoFundMe is helping his mother cope with expenses and time to grieve.
4. Best Bets: Point Reyes Sand Sculpture Contest, 'Jurassic Park,' 'Hairspray,' Brad Mehldau, Lyle Lovett (localnewsmatters.org) — Lyle Lovett is headlining a lavish Opening Night fundraiser for Livermore Valley Arts this Saturday at the Bankhead Theater on First Street, complete with pre-show jazz, auctions, paella, and an after-party on the plaza. The roundup also spotlights other Bay Area outings, from a Point Reyes sand sculpture contest to a free Jurassic Park screening, theater in San Francisco, and a Brad Mehldau concert in Oakland.
