Bridge Connecting Trails Across 5 Parks Now Open in Livermore
The Edward R. Campbell bridge, which connects 44 miles of trails across five parks, officially opened last week.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Edward R. Campbell Bridge, connecting 44 miles of trails across five parks, opened to pedestrians, equestrians and bikers last week. The bridge's Arroyo Road Entrance is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day and features trail connections as far as Mission Peak in Fremont.
The Arroyo del Valle Regional Trail previously dead-ended into Arroyo del Valle, according to the Tri-Valley Conservancy site, which funded the project. Now the Sycamore Grove Park, Del Valle Regional Park, Ohlone Regional Wildreness, Sunol Regional Wilderness and Mission Peak Regional Preserve will be connected — a total of 25,000 acres of open space.
The project has been in the works for five years, said Stacey Kenison of the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District. Before the bridge, there was a footpath that would frequently flood during wetter times of year.

Sycamore Grove Park sees 75,000 visitors each year, according to the Conservancy.
The bridge, which is situated over a creek, will expand trail access, and decrease negative impacts on creek cleanliness and wildlife, the Conservancy said.
