LIVERMORE, CA — A brush fire at I-580 and Greenville Road near Livermore forced a complete shutdown of westbound freeway lanes Monday. The blaze was reported shortly after 3 p.m. and burned at a moderate rate of speed, according to fire officials.

A Sigalert was issued at 3:46 p.m. for the freeway closure that affected all westbound I-580 lanes just east of Greenville Road. Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said the #1 and #2 lanes had reopened, but the #3 and #4 lanes were still closed. By 6:50 p.m., the Sigalert had been cancelled, but traffic remained heavy through the area.

The blaze burned on the north side of I-580 and was estimated at approximately 5 acres. No structures were immediately threatened; smoke was visible across the region.
