Grant Fire Burns 500 Acres, Containment Grows
Fire crews from multiple counties responded to battle the wind-driven wildfires, according to Cal Fire. A road closure is in effect.
ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Fire crews are working to contain seven vegetation fires reported along the Alameda-Contra Costa county line near the Altamont Pass Wednesday afternoon. The fires burned more than 500 acres since they broke out just after 1 p.m., according to CalFire. Fire officials are calling the cluster of blazes the Grant Fire.
Winds in the area are estimated at 30 to 40 mph, according to fire officials. A couple of outbuildings have been destroyed, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jonathan Cox. No one has been injured.
"The wind is really our biggest hazard," Cox said.
