Car Accused Of Sideshow Activity In Livermore Impounded In LA: LPD

LIVERMORE, CA — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department impounded a vehicle involved in an October sideshow in Livermore, the Livermore Police Department reported Sunday.

On Oct. 1 at around 10 p.m., a Livermore officer witnessed two vehicles spinning donuts at First and L streets, with large crowds gathered to watch. Street racing, also known as “sideshows,” increased all over the state during the pandemic, sometimes resulting in deaths. They are illegal in California, and could result in fines, arrests, or vehicle impounds.

A successful 2021 bill that went into effect in January allows officers to issue a three to six-month driver’s license suspension for taking part in sideshows, among other potential penalties.

The Livermore officer wrote a court order for one of the cars, a black Lexus, to be impounded for 30 days if the car is stopped by law enforcement.

The Lexus was stopped roughly 340 miles south of Livermore Saturday night by a member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. The owner now faces thousands of dollars in tow and storage fees, the LPD said.
