Chabot Women's Basketball Ready To Roll Again

After close loss to CCSF, Gladiators set to continue march to playoffs

Chabot College women’s basketball coach Mark Anger called it a “tough loss,” but the Gladiators expect to recover just fine from a 74-72 defeat to rival City College of San Francisco on Jan. 25 in a Coast-North Division showdown.
CCSF, ranked No. 8 in the state’s Jan. 22 CCCSIA Poll, prevailed in the much-anticipated battle on a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.
“We’re right there. The kid made a shot. Their point guard made a shot,” Anger said this week. “I thought we played hard, we competed.”
No. 18 ranked Chabot was led by Bishop O’Dowd High graduate Zakiya Mahoney’s 26 points. Mahoney also had 18 points and 15 rebounds in a blowout of Ohlone on Jan. 23. Mahoney is having an outstanding season.
“She’s a basketball player,” Anger said of Mahoney. “She’s tough, relentless, has a great motor, physical … She’s a winner.
Mia Finnie (Berkeley High) added 14 points against CCSF.
Right after the loss, Anger tweeted “We will be back.”
Indeed, Chabot looks to rebound this week at CSM on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and then will host San Jose on Feb. 6.
