Despite Howling Wind, Grant Fire 80 Percent Contained
At least two outbuildings have been destroyed since the fires started Wednesday afternoon.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Seven vegetation fires burning along the Alameda-Contra Costa county line near the Altamont Pass have charred more than 500 acres and are about 80 percent contained Thursday morning, Cal Fire officials said. A mobile home, one outbuilding, a trailer and three vehicles have been destroyed in the fires, according to Cal Fire. No one has been injured.
The blazes, which are being called the Grant Fire, broke out around 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and quickly charred hundreds of acres. No word from fire officials regarding the cause of the fires.
Winds in the area were estimated at 30-40 mph Wednesday night, Cal Fire officials said. The California Highway Patrol issued a traffic advisory early this morning near Altamont Pass Road due to the wind gusts.
