Driver Goes Wrong Way In Stolen Car, Runs Across I-580 While Fleeing Police

LIVERMORE, CA — A 47-year-old Lodi man is accused of leading police on a wrong-way freeway chase in a stolen car and running across I-580, according to the Livermore Police Department.

On Aug. 9, Livermore police were alerted to an automated license plate reader hit for a stolen license plate out of Pleasanton near First Street and I-580, according to the LPD. Officers attempted to contact the driver, but he drove away and fled from officers, police said.

Officers initiated a pursuit, but canceled it after the suspect drove the wrong on a freeway off-ramp. A short time later, Dublin police located the car, and a witness called 911 to report seeing a person running across I-580. LPD’s Drone Unit located the suspect hiding on the south side of I-580, where he was taken into custody.

During the investigation, officers say they located a large amount of stolen mail inside the car. Police say the car had been reported stolen out of Livermore in July.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony evading while driving the wrong way on a highway, receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle, identity theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violating the terms of his Post-Release Community Supervision.
