East Bay Companies, UC Berkeley Honored For Innovation

The East Bay Innovation Awards celebrates the cutting-edge innovators in business and the university that helped make it possible.


Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Tech, Communication Technology, Life Sciences. The East Bay has developed into a leader in innovation and job creation.

Hundreds of business, government and nonprofit leaders gathered recently in Oakland to recognize the winners of the 2016 East Bay Innovation Awards, hosted by the East Bay Economic Development Alliance. The event was the result of a months-long competition for the best use of innovation across eight industry sectors.

Awardees were selected by subject matter expertise judges from over 100 nominations.

The first award of the evening, before the eight competitive awards were revealed, was the Legacy Award, given to an organization with a lasting impact of promoting a culture of innovation. The University of California, Berkeley was presented the Legacy Award for their decades of globally recognized research, outstanding number of Nobel winners, and the development of creative student and graduate entrepreneurs starting innovative companies.
