The Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation has announced its 2015 scholarship recipients, awarding $392,000 to 122 Livermore students.
The Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation has announced its 2015 scholarship recipients, awarding $392,000 to 122 Livermore students. The 2015 Pedrozzi Scholars include community college, vocational school, undergraduate and graduate students, twenty percent of whom are the first in their families to attend college. In the fall, they will be studying throughout California and across the country, but they all have one thing in common – they all graduated from a Livermore high school and give back to their community.
The 2015 Pedrozzi Scholars include two special scholars – Katelyn Pickett, recipient of the Nelson Fong Undergraduate Scholarship, and Kevin Patel, recipient of the George Kerr Undergraduate Scholarship. These two scholarships, generously funded by longtime Livermore residents Jay and Mary Davis, are in honor of retired Livermore teachers Nelson Fong and George Kerr.
A highly regarded teacher, Nelson Fong taught advanced math and physics courses at Livermore High School, courses in which Katelyn Pickett exceled. Katelyn worked as a math tutor throughout high school in addition to being involved in Livermore High School activities, including orchestra and show choir.

At Portola Elementary School, George Kerr taught music in additional to his elementary school teaching responsibilities. Kevin Patel shares that passion as he composes music, leads the Granada High School orchestra, and volunteers teaching music to Junction Avenue Middle School Mariachi band students.
Jay and Mary Davis say, “With our children’s encouragement and guidance (Kathy - LHS ‘83 and Rob - LHS ‘87), we decided to fund two scholarships in honor of the teachers who inspired them. We are honored to be active supporters of education in Livermore and Livermore students.”

The Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to graduates of the four Livermore school district high schools and since 2008, has awarded more than $2.7 million to 769 Livermore students. Pedrozzi Scholars are not only motivated students, but are also well rounded individuals, who perform community service, participate in extra-curricular school activities, and gain valuable work experience. In addition to reducing the financial burden for students, these scholarships encourage students to dream big.
The community is invited to celebrate with the 2015 Pedrozzi Scholars at the annual Awards Recognition Event, Thursday, June 4, 4:30 – 6:00 pm, at the Bankhead Theater Plaza (2400 First Street, Livermore). To congratulate the new Pedrozzi Scholars and support future ones, Patxi’s Pizza, Livermore and Sauced BBQ and Spirits will donate a portion of their June 4th proceeds to the Foundation.
The Pedrozzi Scholarship Foundation was established in 2004 by Mario Pedrozzi, a Livermore businessman, who left his estate as a gift to the community. Now a unique and valuable community asset, the foundation helps Livermore students achieve their education and career goals through scholarships and other resources. Through generous donations to the Foundation, other Livermore community members have joined Mr. Pedrozzi in investing in Livermore students.
