Free Tax Preparation Services Available in Tri-Valley

From Las Positas College: The Tri-Valley One-Stop Career Center, a service of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, is once again providing free tax preparation services to qualified low-to-moderate income individuals, families, and seniors from the end of January through April 15, 2017. The program is offered in partnership with the United Way of the Bay Area through its Earn It, Keep It, Save It program. Tax returns are e-filed so that patrons can receive their refund in as little as ten days.

All tax returns are prepared and double checked by trained and IRS-certified volunteers at two locations in the Tri-Valley---the One-Stop Career Center offices at 6300 Village Parkway, Suite 100 in Dublin, and at the Pleasanton Library located at 400 Old Bernal Avenue in Pleasanton.

Tax preparation can cost a family between $300-$500 to have their tax returns prepared. For a family on a limited budget, that is money that could be spent on rent, food, clothing or childcare. The Earn It, Keep It, Save It program offers piece of mind at a stressful time.

Those interested in benefitting from this free service should assemble the following documentation to present to the tax preparer, and then call (925) 560-9431 to schedule an appointment in Dublin or Pleasanton.

• Photo ID for each person listed on your tax return
• Social Security card or ITIN for each person on your tax return
• W-2's from all jobs held in 2016
• Savings and checking account and routing numbers for direct deposit
• Your household's health coverage information (1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C)
• Last year's tax return

Also bring, if applicable:

• Property tax bill paid during the tax year
• Child care provider information
• All 1099s, 1098s and any other tax forms
• Landlord's name, address and phone number for CA renters credit
• Record of college-related expenses
