(Livermore) West Coast Fury opened the fall season with a pair of road wins to begin Nor Cal League play and State Cup, September 6th & 7th.
Saturday, the girls U-12 Livermore based team traveled to Modesto to face Ajax in the Nor Cal league opener. Fury needed less then five minutes to get on the board. Trinity Sandridge opened the scoring as Bella Romero and Kourtney Kessler were credited
with the assist. West Coast didn’t let off the gas despite the 1-0 lead as Kaleigh Castillo found the back of the net, off a pass from Kelena Brongiel to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Alyssa Garza blasted a right footed shot past the keeper; Romero once again got the assist and that would be all Fury would need to lock up a 3-1 victory. West Coast was without starting goalie Kelsey Hoopes, but Kristina Orbegosso did a fine job in relief. Fury Coach Ray Canevari praised the play of defenders Gracie and Angie Alfonzo, Celina Garcia and Faith Rogers.

Sunday was the State Cup opener for Nor Cal’s #1 ranked team. Fury was once again on the road, but this time a little closer traveling to nearby Tracy for a matchup with Xplosion, the clubs top team in the age group. Fury dominated play and got three amazing goals from Gracie Alfonzo, Bella Romero and Kelena Brongiel en route to a 3-0 victory. Brongiel and Celina Garcia recorded assists. Xplosion never took a single shot during the game and goalie Kelsey Hoopes never touched the ball for the entire 60 minutes.
“Our team is playing with a tremendous amount of confidence and they’re so unselfish” said Coach Canevari. “For how much talent is on our squad they could all have ego’s, but they don’t! They play for each other and as a coach, I absolutely love that” “All 16 players performed amazing this weekend, there’s no way to single one player out; they’re a true team”
