Hewitt's Hospitalizations

First I will begin with a thank you for the prayers, encouragement and visits! We are fortunate to have such a wonderful support network. I am also grateful for the dedication with the Showing for Hannah event coming in August. I am touched my the outpouring of items donated and volunteers committed to create a successful day. Please save this date, share the information and join the fun!

Hannah is doing quite well and will likely be discharged on Saturday. We have learned that she is now a diabetic. This is not uncommon for a Cystic Fibrosis patient, especially one that is in progression. This condition is likely the reason for her significant weight loss over the past couple of months. Since her admission Hannah has gained several pounds! She will only require one insulin injection at night for now and blood checks before and after every meal/snack. It is a tremendous blessing that she is breathing much better and putting on pounds!

Andrew's condition is about the same and still without understanding. It was determined that he has a common respiratory virus but that is not the contributing factor to his current abdominal issue. An upper G.I scan unveiled a hiatal hernia but again that is not a diagnosis that explains the bowel blockage. That is likely a result of the underlying mystery ailment. The hernia will require surgery but that is not an option at this juncture as he is battling a virus. For now, more tests are ordered and routine abdominal X-rays are necessary. Despite all of this, Andrew has blessed us all with his beautiful smile and big hugs! We are hoping he will be able to go home this weekend as well.
