UPDATE: Man, 22, Dies After Head-On Crash on Highway 84

The Lathrop man's identity has not yet been released.

SUNOL, CA: A 22-year-old man died after a head-on crash on state Highway 84 near Pleasanton Friday night. Around 9:05 p.m., a silver Nissan 370z was traveling on westbound Highway 84 west of Ruby Hill Drive, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

At the same time, a gray Ford F250 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 84. The Nissan lost control and crossed over two sets of double yellow lines and collided with the Ford, the CHP said. The driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to CHP officials.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP has not released the identity of the victim, a Lathrop resident. CHP officers closed the highway for about an hour as they investigated the collision.

All lanes of state Highway 84 in Sunol have reopened this morning following a fatal crash Friday night. The California Highway Patrol reported just before midnight all lanes of the highway have been reopened.

The crash was reported at 9:08 p.m. in the area of state Highway 84, also known as Vallecitos Road, and Little Valley Road. A Sig-alert issued due to the crash has been canceled.
