This afternoon Hannah was discharged from the hospital. Her weight has increased and so has her lung function. The weight increase was moderate and the lung function was slight but both were welcomed as good news! She has 21 days of intravenous antibiotics to go and an abundance of adjusting to diabetic to master. Neither will defeat the fight in Hannah.
Sadly, Andrew's news is not so gleaming. The surgeon informed me this morning that Andrew does indeed have a hiatal hernia but it is not the culprit for his condition. Neither the X-ray nor the CAT scan revealed any profound indication for his current strife. Although it would seem logical that the avoidance of surgery is a blessing, in this situation it left a feeling of devastation. The repair of a hernia would have meant that a conclusive diagnosis was unveiled and a treatment program could be determined. As of now we are left with only more questions for a child that is consumed by pain during digestion and no possible solutions. He is again without feedings after enduring another heartbreaking episode after receiving a small feeding this morning. No food will be attempted again until a Gastro- Intestinal specialist (G.I. guy) can evaluate him. I confess that it is acutely troublesome to see Andrew as his happy little self one moment, sharing his bright smile with everyone, to a little guy crying out in sobs of pain simply due to eating! Please pray that the doctors will stay devoted to seeking a firm understanding and treatment for this ailment. Wisdom and dedication will be key components for achieving these goals.
Please accept the Yahoo group invitation I sent if you desire to continue with receiving these updates. Yahoo continues to shut down my email due to the updates. The solution to that glitch, per yahoo, is to establish a group site. I have registered it as private.
Our dear friend is still managing the GoFundMe site for Team Hannah and our family (http://www.gofundme/hopeforhannah). Medical expenses will likely exceed $2000 for the children as a result of these current hospitalization.
Thank you for the prayers and encouragement for me and my family! The visits, texts and emails are great too. I am home this afternoon but will return to the hospital in the morning. Once I am there I will be without internet. The issue with the hospital router is under repair but until the work is complete I cannot send updates.
