Team Hannah: Hospital Update for Tuesday

Hannah is striving to gain weight so she can come home on intravenous medications later this week. That may seem easy but it is actually quite a challenge. On average, a Cystic Fibrosis patient only retains 40% of their calorie intake. Her lungs are sounding pretty good so hopefully she has a noteworthy lung function test on Friday. She enjoys the visits, is thankful for encouragement and grateful for prayers!

Andrew spent last evening at the Kaiser Oakland ER. He had sobbed in pain for several hours and his abdomen had become intensely distended. Upon our arrival we also learned that his heart rate was elevated and he had a temperature despite having a dose of Tylenol. At 2:30 in the morning, after several tests and contemplation, the decision was made to admit him to the hospital. The symptoms were clear but the cause remained a mystery. There is concern that there is a G.I. (gastrointestinal bleed), blockage or obstruction. At this time, after an upper G.I. test, there is reason to be focused on the reality of a blockage. The mass has the potential to result in an obstruction so it will be closely monitored. For now, Andrew continues to endure bouts of intense pain and is without feedings. Testing will continue and a search for a diagnosis is sought.

In addition to these matters, we ask for prayer to seek insulation, HVAC and sheetrock for the construction. These entities will be needed in the very near future. The hospital stays will consume much more of the family finances so the crisis continues to grow in severity.
