Inaugural Women's Series Tour de Cure in Livermore
Bay Area Women Joining the Celebration to Help Stop Diabetes at the Inaugural Women's Series Tour de Cure

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is inviting women riders of all levels to join the celebration and be part of the Stop Diabetes® movement by taking part in the inaugural Women’s Series Tour de Cure®, a cycling event happening on Sunday, October 26 in Livermore Valley Wine Country.
The Women’s Series is part of a new women’s-focused initiative that builds on 20+ years of success with the ADA’s Tour de Cure national cycling fundraiser. For information about the event, bring a friend and join us for food, prizes, and inspiration at the Women’s Series Kick Off Party this Saturday, September 20, 6-8pm at Livermore Cyclery-Dublin (RSVP requested).
The Women’s Series will attract women with an interest in health and fitness and is a chance to harness the unique camaraderie of women who want to ride together in a non-competitive cycling event and raise funds and awareness to Stop Diabetes. The Women’s Series Tour de Cure is designed for beginning to experienced cyclists offering 15-mile, 36-mile and 66-mile routes through Livermore Valley. Wente Vineyards is hosting a rider reception and interactive women’s expo the evening before the event in their historic Sandstone Caves.

“The Women’s Series is more than just a bike ride it is a celebration of hope. I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago, gave up driving and started using my bicycle as my main mode of transportation. I’m riding as a Red Rider for other people who, like me, fight this awful disease every day” said Jen Blanchard, volunteer and participant, American Diabetes Association. “Diabetes is quickly becoming a major health crisis in this country with 29 million Americans affected. I watched my mother struggle with complications of type 2 diabetes and realized that I was increasing my own risk of developing diabetes by being obese, added Sharon Steele, Volunteer Chair and participant, American Diabetes Association.
The Women’s Series Tour de Cure raises funds through registration fees and pledges collected by the cyclists. To register, cyclists or volunteers can call the American Diabetes Association toll‑free at 1‑888-DIABETES or visit us at diabetes.org/womenstournorcal. To RSVP for the Kick Off party on Saturday, email Lee Barona at lbarona@diabetes.org.
