Jacob Pabley - Eagle Scout Troop 924

Jacob Pabley - Eagle Scout Troop 924 Livermore, CA

Jacob Pabley started his adventures in scouting in 2003 when he joined Troop 915 as a Tiger Cub. He had lots of fun and steadily moved up the ranks. In 2008, Jacob earned his Arrow of Light (the highest rank in Cub Scouts and the only Cub Scout rank that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform) and bridged to Boy Scouts. He initially joined Troop 975 but eventually moved to Troop 924. As he made his way through the Boy Scout program – going on hikes, attending camps, and earning badges and ranks – Jacob also focused on giving back. He worked many day camps and away camps, volunteered to help at VA hospital events and flag ceremonies, and participated in fundraisers and other troop/community events. Jacob always encouraged younger scouts and helped show them how to have fun while advancing through the Scouting program. Through scouting, Jacob learned lifelong skills, increased his self-confidence and leadership abilities, and became a kind, compassionate, helpful young man. We are proud that Jacob completed the entire scouting experience - starting at Tiger and ending at Eagle.

Jacob’s desire to be active and to help out was also evident at Livermore High School. As a sophomore, he joined LHS’s Link Crew (a club designed to help freshmen adjust to high school life). He stayed active in Link Crew for three years and became the club’s vice president the last year. Jacob truly enjoyed helping younger classmates to make the best of their high school years. He also spent two years in varsity football and one year in varsity volleyball. As always, Jacob encouraged his teammates to do their best and to have fun! Even though his senior year was busy, he had fun helping build the senior float and performing a main role in the senior class homecoming skit.

For his Eagle Project, Jacob wanted to do something that was a little different, and he wanted his project to somehow help children. Using a well thought out assembly line, a happy group of volunteers, and many boxes of purchased/donated items, his Eagle Project produced 100 Comfort Bags for Children in Crisis Situations. Each drawstring “backpack” bag contained items that were fun (toys and coloring books) , comforting (stuffed animal and glow stick), and functional (pencils and toothbrush kits). Jacob’s project took over 77 hours to plan and execute. He had 26 volunteers and received a little over $850 in donations. Giving displaced children something of their own that will help them take their mind off of their troubles - to feel happy - was the ultimate goal for Jacob’s Eagle Project. The comfort bags will be handed out by firefighters in the Livermore–Pleasanton fire departments as needed.

Jacob’s Eagle Court of Honor was held on August 3rd, 2015 in the Cresta Blanca North Ballroom at Robert Livermore Community Center in Livermore. It was attended by over 140 family, friends, scout officials, and special guests including Mayor John Marchand, Mayor Emeritus Dr. Marshall Kamena, and Mr. Derek Weber, representing Assemblywoman Catharine Baker.

Jacob has continued to give back to scouting. He is currently an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 924, and, this summer, he staffed Cub Day Camp, Webelos Day Camp (as Camp Master), and Wolf-Bear Adventure Camp. Jacob attended Croce Elementary, Christensen Middle School, and Livermore High School. He graduated from LHS in June 2015. He started classes at Las Positas College on August 17th. His goal is to get an associate’s degree, transfer to a 4 year college, and earn a bachelor’s degree. In spring, he also plans to give back to his high school by volunteering to be an assistant coach for LHS’s boys volleyball team. Jacob’s goal is to one day become a police officer or a firefighter. He also would like to serve in the military prior to beginning his career.
