Livermore K9 Helps Find Suspect In Manhole Along I-580: LPD

LIVERMORE, CA — A Livermore K9 helped catch a suspect accused of possession of an assault weapon and illegal drugs who had reportedly burrowed himself into a hole along the creek near I-580.

On Saturday at around 11 p.m. near Airway Boulevard and Isabel Avenue, Livermore police stopped a car for various code violations, the department said in a social media post. Police said that when they stopped the car, suspect Darnell Bazile-Chambers was driving without a valid license. Police also said they saw illegal drugs inside.

Bazile-Chambers reportedly fled the car on foot during a vehicle search, ignoring commands to stop. Police say he ran northbound across Airway Boulevard, jumped a barbed wire fence, and went through a canal.

At around 12:40 a.m., police and a K9 named Max located him in a man-made hole along the creek near I-580. Police found his car nearby, and say they found an unserialized Short Barrel Assault rifle in the trunk.

Bazile-Chambers was arrested on various gun and drug charges.
