Lab Participating in Science Festival Discovery Day
Discovery Day will be held Saturday. Last year, 30,000 people attended.

Test your knowledge of basic science, offer up solutions to the world’s energy and transportation needs or get up to your elbows in interactive experiments when the Bay Area Science Festival presents its fourth annual Discovery Day, Saturday, Nov. 1, at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory will have three booths on display, located on the playing field.
Each year Discovery Day features an array of hands-on exhibits, experiments, games and stage demonstrations from laboratories, universities and businesses, all designed to tap into guests’ “inner scientist” or inspire the next generation of great minds. Last year more than 30,000 people attended.

The event, with more than 150 exhibitors, takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free of charge.
In addition to hands-on scientific challenges, Lawrence Livermore will feature video tours of the inner workings of the National Ignition Facility, the world’s largest and most energetic laser. An interactive, avatar-hosted game will challenge basic scientific know-how, while a climate simulation dares participants to solve future needs for energy while minimizing the impact to the environment.

The Lab’s popular “Fun With Science” will demonstrate scientific principles and describe how the Lab uses these phenomena in its daily work.
“The Laboratory is proud to be joining other noted exhibitors and performers at the Discovery Day to help inspire and educate young minds through hands-on encounters in science and engineering -- all which help demystify technology for kids and motivate them to pursue STEM careers,” said Lab Director Bill Goldstein.
Founded in 1952, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory provides solutions to our nation’s most important national security challenges through innovative science, engineering and technology. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is managed by Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.
