This lecture is free and open to all ages.

From LARPD:On April 17, 2018, at 6 p.m. the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District will host a lecture on the legality, use and forms of medical marijuana. This lecture is free and open to all ages.

Since becoming legal for medical use in California in 1996, medical marijuana has been researched with positive results for many of the problems older adults face today. A 2013 study revealed that four out five doctors approve of medical marijuana and that more than 90 percent of medical marijuana patients (of around 7,500 surveyed) say that it has helped treat their conditions. From 2006 to 2013 cannabis use among seniors increased by 250 percent. In 2014, a preclinical study was published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

The results from that study "strongly suggest that THC could be a potential therapeutic treatment option for Alzheimer's Disease through multiple functions and pathways."The lecture will be held at the Robert Livermore Community Center, located at 4444 East Ave., in Livermore. Additional parking is available at 4448 Loyola Way. For reservations, call 925-373-5700; event #8324.
