Trees Down Throughout Livermore; Power Largely Restored

Powerful winds have knocked down trees, fences, and signs, and caused large outages across the Tri-Valley.

LIVERMORE, CA — Power is mostly restored to at least 3,328 customers in Livermore as of 6 p.m., though at least 286 are still without power.

The outage was one of hundreds of outages reported throughout the Bay Area Tuesday. Across the Bay Area, over 155,000 customers were without power at around noon. Over 6000 in Pleasanton and over 2500 in Danville (down from 4000 earlier Tuesday), are ongoing as of 6 p.m.

The Livermore outage affected a large swath of homes from roughly El Padro Park in the west, 3rd Street in the downtown area to the north, Robertson Park to the east, and Ravenswood Park to the south. Smaller outages are reported north of Stanley Boulevard.

Dozens of downed trees were reported throughout Livermore as of gusts of up to 50 mph race through. "I drove around for a few hours and found a tree on every other block," Livermore resident Collin Butler told Patch.

A tree fell over onto the side of a Livermore apartment building, ripping off the side of the building, according to reports and photos on Twitter from KTVU.

A eucalyptus tree fell on the water tower at Sunset Park. A tree fell onto a car at 4th Street, causing the street to be blocked off. Concannon Boulevard was blocked off when a tree broke the brick wall and fell into the intersection. A side street was blocked off Railroad Avenue near the thrift store, according to reports from the Facebook group Livermore Rants & Raves.

A tree also fell onto a car in front of the 24-Hour Fitness on Kitty Hawk Road. An employee told Patch that she saw dozens of fire trucks and ambulances in front at around noon. No injuries were reported, according to a Livermore Police Department spokesperson. Patch is awaiting more information from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department.

Online, users reported dozens of downed trees, including on Stanley Boulevard (the eastbound lane remains closed due to trail erosion), in Hagemann Park, Pleasure Island Park, Old Oak Road, Granada Woods, Topaz Way, Murdell Lane, Portola Avenue, Bluebell Drive, by the Lucky shopping center, in the field behind Mendenhall Middle School, on North Mines Street and Sonia Street, Concannon and Murdell, 4th Street blocking eastbound lanes at College Avenue, and many more. Downed wires were reported throughout the city via the Pulsepoint app.

Another resident said a tree branch broke off and hit her car as she was driving between Kohl’s and the freeway. Another reported that the banner across from Fourth Street near the park had tethers loose and was swinging around at lunch, and nearly cracked the windshield. Many more residents reported ripped up fences and gazebos.
