Livermore Among Lowest Uninsured Rates In US: Study

When it comes to medical insurance, local residents don't leave anything to chance.

LIVERMORE, CA — An unexpected medical crisis can happen at any time and leave the sick or injured, along with their families, bankrupt. Livermore residents aren't taking any chances. WalletHub measured the uninsured rates for 547 U.S. cities. The city with the lowest uninsured rate: Union City with just 0.88 percent of residents who are uninsured. Livermore made the Top 10 list with just 1.7 percent of residents uninsured.

California did extremely well on the list overall, with eight of the 10 in California, and five in the Bay Area.

The national trend is going in the opposite direction. Across the county, 15.5 percent of residents are now uninsured compared to 12.7 percent just two years ago.

Methodology

In order to measure the rates of uninsured by city, WalletHub compared the overall insurance rates in 547 U.S. cities in 2017 using U.S. Census Bureau data. In addition to comparing the overall insurance rates, we examined the city rates based on age, race/ethnicity and income level.
