Livermore Lab: Top Place To Work, Top Donor

The Lab was ranked sixth out of 100 companies in the United States. It also made news by raising $3.7 million in charitable contributions.

LIVERMORE, CA — Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has been named by Glassdoor as one of the top 10 places to work in the United States.

Glassdoor’s 12th annual Employees’ Choice Awards put LLNL at number six out of 100 companies in its 2020 Best Places to Work list for U.S. Large Employers (defined as more than 1,000 employees).

According to Glassdoor's Dec. 11 announcement, getting a top spot on its list is no small feat: "2020 is the most competitive year-to-date, with more eligible companies than ever, showcasing how many companies are prioritizing culture in their workplaces today."

“This year’s winners stand out for promoting transparency with employees, offering career growth opportunities and providing work driven by impact and purpose,” said Christian Sutherland-Wong, Glassdoor president, chief operating officer and incoming chief executive officer. “Congratulations go to all of the exceptional employers this year who stand out in the eyes of their employees.”

Following on the news from Glassdoor, LLNL also made headlines Monday when it announced that its employees pledged $2,740,935 to charitable organizations this year. The giving came in the form of payroll deductions that were up $15,000 from last year. One hundred percent of the funds donated go directly to agencies that are selected by employees, according to LLNL.

Nearly 1,200 employees (15.7 percent) participated this year, benefiting more than 1,200 community/nonprofit agencies in the Tri-Valley, Greater Bay Area, San Joaquin County and beyond.

In addition to the employee pledges, Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS), LLC, also matched the contributions, putting the total LLNL donation at more than $3.7 million this year.

The fundraising effort is part of the company's Helping Others More Effectively (HOME) campaign. Since 2009, the Lab's HOME campaign, which runs October through December, has raised more than $3 million annually (including the annual LLNS $1 million match), with a total amount raised of nearly $40 million in the last decade.
