Livermore Native Drafted By Kansas City Royals

LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore native Tanner Griffith was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th Round of the Major League Baseball Draft with the 329th overall pick.

Griffith, 21, started his baseball career with Livermore Little League, and attended De La Salle High School in Concord, where he won a number of honors:

• North Coast Section and NorCal championships in 2022 and 2023.
• Named First Team All-EBAL, First Team All-State, and MVP by multiple news outlets after his senior season

He was also awarded the Sophomore MVP, Junior Coach’s Award, Senior Silver Slugger, and the Senior Gold Glove.

Griffith was one of four De La Salle alumni drafted this year:

• Tyler Spangler ‘26 - Philadelphia Phillies, 1st round
• Cal Randall ‘23 - Cardinals, 5th round
• Bear Harrison ‘23 - Yankees, 5th round

Griffith currently attends Saint Mary’s College, where he’s a center fielder. During the past season, he helped lead the Gaels to an NCAA Tournament appearance. In 62 games, he posted a .342 batting average while reaching base at .477 clip and slugging .545. During postseason play, he also achieved a perfect 3-for-3 performance with a double and a run scored in the NCAA Regional Final against Cal Poly.

The Tri-Valley has produced an impressive crop of MLB draft picks this year. Amador Valley High School alumnus Oliver de la Torre was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays, while Foothill alum Jackson Flora was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the fourth overall pick.
