Livermore School Scare: Kid Reports Armed Man, Cops Find Nothing

An Emma C. Smith Elementary student reported seeing an armed man in a car in the parking lot, but police found no evidence to back that up.

LIVERMORE, CA — Emma C. Smith Elementary School was put on lockdown Wednesday after a second-grader reported seeing a man with a gun inside a car in the parking lot, but Livermore Police investigated and could not confirm the report. Police believe the school and students are not in danger at this time, and an investigation is ongoing.

The Livermore Police Department was contacted by staff shortly before 1 p.m. for a report of a man sitting in a car in the parking lot. The student told staff they thought the man was armed and officials put the school on lockdown as a precaution, police said in a Facebook post.

Police searched the neighborhood, checked nearby surveillance equipment and interviewed students and staff. They could not confirm a man with a gun was on campus.
