Livermore Students Celebrate Walk & Roll To School Day
The day provided an opportunity for communities to connect and enjoy the morning together.
From LVJUSD:Livermore students walked and rolled their way to school on Wednesday, October 10 for International Walk & Roll to School Day. Bike lanes and sidewalks around Livermore were occupied in the morning as students and families rode bikes and scooters, carpooled, or walked to get to school during the international event that encourages safe, healthy, environmentally friendly transportation.
From tandem bikes to rickshaws to tricycles, students and their families found a variety of fun ways to ride to school. Neighbors and friends gathered to form walking school buses. The day provided an opportunity for communities to connect and enjoy the morning together. Livermore Police officers were present on campuses to congratulate students and hand out stickers for those who walked, rode, or carpooled.
“Normally there’s only a handful of bikes on the bike rack,” commented a Sunset Elementary School parent. “But today it seems like there might not even be enough room!” The racks were indeed nearly bursting with bikes, adorned with helmets and locks – a colorful representation of the number of students who participated.

"Each year I am amazed with Sunset's high participation rate for our annual Walk & Roll to School,” said Sunset Principal Tom Jones. “Foregoing vehicle travel for the day, and instead relying on foot and pedal power is a great reminder to our school community that physical exercise and reduction in pollution from vehicles is important to us. Great job, Sunset!”
Many schools around the District have seen increased participation in the annual event, and for some students it marks the beginning of a healthy habit of walking or riding to school more often. Students and families are always encouraged to use healthy and safe alternatives to driving to school whenever possible. International Walk & Roll to School Day serves as a celebration of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District community’s commitment to keeping students active and healthy.
