Local Boy Scouts Collect 16 Tons of Food
Packs and Troops in the Tri-Valley collect food and clothing for the needy
Scouting for Food is a national good turn project of the Boy Scouts of America to collect food for local food banks. Scouts leave flyers on doorknobs in their neighborhoods and come back the following week to pick up any food left on the doorsteps. This year, for the first time, it also included a clothing drive.
The food and clothing drive are rooted in the foundation of scouting and the Scout Slogan to “Do a Good Turn Daily”. Scouts frequently participate in service projects for the community and each scout achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is required to head up a major service project which benefits a local community organization.
The recent Scouting for Food Drive held in November by the Twin Valley District (which includes Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin and Sunol) resulted in the collection of 32,027 lbs of food, which would equal 710,475 meals. Along with the food were 96 pallets of clothing.

The Twin Valley District is part of the San Francisco Bay Area Council (SFBAC) which is the area including San Francisco, Oakland, Hayward, Fremont and most of Alameda County. Overall 85,000 lbs of food were collected by the SFBAC.
Participating in the recent food drive were local Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Explorer Posts.
