LPFD To Conduct Live Fire Training Burns At Sycamore Grove Park

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department is coordinating with a number of other agencies to conduct live fire training burns at Sycamore Grove Park Monday through Thursday.

The trainings plan to burn about 50 acres of grassland in Upper Sycamore Grove Park, which will be closed for the week. Burning operations are scheduled to occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Smoke may be visible in the Livermore area during those times.

The Lower Park will remain open.

The LFPD is working with the Livermore Area Recreational Park District, CalFire, Alameda County, the East Bay Regional Park District, and Camp Parks Fire Departments on the trainings. The trainings are designed to support vegetation management, hazardous fuel load reduction, and wildlife habitat improvement through removing noxious weeds and fuel buildup, LPFD said in a news release.

The trainings will also cover topics like fire behavior, firing operations, holding operations, and mobile fire attack, and improve inter-agency collaborations before peak fire season.

Live burns produce significantly less smoke than wildfires, and are planned in coordination with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to minimize smoke impact to surrounding communities. The agencies will monitor weather and air quality, and reschedule trainings if necessary.
