Subject: LVCP students host “Blanket Day” to benefit Project Linus

(Livermore, CA) The Livermore Valley Charter Prep High School cast of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, hosted a “Blanket Day” to benefit the Alameda and Diablo Valley chapters of Project Linus. The mission of Project Linus is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need, through gifts of handmade, washable blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer blanketeers. The cast, crew, teachers and students of Livermore Valley Charter Prep High School cut, assembled, and tied over 16 blankets, to be donated to the Alameda and Diablo County chapters of Project Linus.

Kjelene Deakin, Director of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and teacher at LVCP, organized the event for her cast members. “Even though being part of the play is an extracurricular activity, here at LVCP, it is part of our culture to encourage our students to provide service to their community. Our vision for our students at LVCP states ‘...(our graduates) will demonstrate a commitment to values of self-discipline, integrity and responsibility.’ I could not think of a better way for our kids to demonstrate this vision than to give up a day of rehearsal to give back to their peers and provide a service for such an important organization. It also fits in so beautifully with the message of our musical, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.”

Deakin is proud to be making history by directing LVCP’s first Musical Production. “I have a phenomenally talented cast, an equally talented Stage Production class, under the direction of producer/teacher John Warren, assisted by professional stage craft designer, Amy St. John, who are working tirelessly on sets, props and costumes. I am also honored to work with the fantastic musical director/ teacher Joe Lim. The time effort and dedication of these students and professionals will ensure that our first musical will be a MUST SEE event.” The performances will be April 23-26 at LVCP at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available at the door.
