Therapy Stores Opens In Downtown Livermore

The San Francisco-based clothing business has opened its 12th store in downtown Livermore.

LIVERMORE, CA — Therapy Stores opened the doors of its new downtown Livermore branch during a soft opening last Friday, the company announced on its Facebook page. The retailer has 12 branches and sells jewelry, gift items, clothes, accessories, books, home items and more.

Jing Chen, owner of Therapy Stores, said she opened the first store with the help of her ex in 1994, in San Francisco.

Livermore is a special place, she said. Of all her locations, Chen said she's never felt so at ease in a community. Fellow merchants are often competitive, but downtown Livermore has been welcoming.

"We've been wanting to be in Livermore for ... probably the last 18 years," she said. "It was not an accident."

One percent of all purchases go to nonprofits, including the Alameda Food Bank and Planned Parenthood, Chen said. At least 60 percent of all donations go to Adopt a Classroom — Therapy Stores chooses to donate to kindergarten and first grade literacy classes at Title I schools, which have many students from low-income families.
