New Director Named For Sandia National Laboratories
Incoming director Dr. James S. Peery will replace retiring director Dr. Stephen Younger.

LIVERMORE, CA — A new director will be taking the helm at Sandia National Laboratories next year, after Dr. Stephen Younger, current director, retires at the end of 2019. Dr. James S. Peery, who currently serves as associate laboratory director of national security sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, will take the reins, Sandia announced Monday in a press release.
Peery was unanimously selected by the board of managers after a nationwide search and review of more than 80 candidates, said Stevan Slijepcevic, who chairs the National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia LLC Board of Managers. Peery has a background in scientific and engineering code development, and technical program management and development.
He began his career at Sandia in 1990 and left the company 12 years later to take several leadership positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He returned to Sandia in 2007, was named vice president of defense systems and assessments in 2015, and left in 2017 to take his current role.
