Wildfire Threat Continues In East Bay: Red Flag Warning Issued

EAST BAY, CA — The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Red Flag Warning for the East Bay Hills that began at 1 p.m. Tuesday and is expected to last through 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"The East Bay hills have been identified as an area of particular concern," officials said.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

In East Bay valleys, wind gusts of up to 35 mph are forecast. In the mountains, gusts are expected to reach 50 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, the wind will not be as strong as it was over the weekend, but it will still result in "critical fire weather conditions across much of the Bay
Area."

Winds will ease through the day on Wednesday, but very dry conditions will persist, according to the NWS.
