(Glenn Stewart)

LIVERMORE, CA — At last, sweet blessed rain! After a prolonged dry spell and a record-setting, two-week long heat wave, Livermore received much-needed rain Sunday night and Monday morning.

Resident Glenn Stewart shared a photo he took of a wet sidewalk outside Monica's Brunch Restaurant on Second Street downtown. Stewart told Patch that the word "petrichor" was coined by Australian scientists in 1964 to describe that delicious and all-too-rare smell of a first rain after a dry spell.

Thanks, Glenn!
