Police Warn Against Trader Joe's Wallet Theft

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore and Danville police departments are warning against a growing trend of wallets being taken from unattended open purses at Trader Joe’s across the Tri-Valley and East Bay.

The Trader Joe’s in Livermore and Danville have not reported any incidents of theft, according to spokespersons for both police departments. The Trader Joe’s at 3903 Santa Rita Road in Pleasanton has had a few reports of wallet thefts in the past month, according to the Pleasanton Police Department, though Patch is still awaiting word on how many.

Both departments offered advice for ways to avoid wallet theft, including:

• Keep your wallet and purse in a secure location on or close to your body
• Minimize distractions like looking at your phone
• Be careful when unloading your coat
• Avoid walking away from your shopping cart
• Consider a carabiner to lock a purse to a cart
